Indonesian Government Scholarships

Government of Indonesia prepare 2 kinds of scholarships for people from friendly countries to introduce Indonesian culture comprehensively to support Indonesian diplomatic success continuously. Both of two scholarship programs are "Darmasiswa" program and Non-Alignment Schoolarship program. Darmasiswa program is started in 1974, previously limited in ASEAN area. Now, this program is popular, it can attract a lot of people from many friendly countries in whole world.

However, more than a half of applicants rejected since the scholarship is prepared just for 100 students. The participants of non-degree program study Indonesian and art for a year in several universities such as Indonesian University, Gadjah Mada University, ISI Yogyakarta (Indonesian Art Institute Yogyakarta), and ISI Denpasar. Until now, the program has graduated more than 1300 peoples from 53 countries.

Meanwhile, since 1993 GNB Schoolarship program is offered to people from Non-Alignment countries that interested to study Magister program in many fields in Indonesia. This program takes 3 years that consist of preparation program (the participants study Indonesian) for a year (begin September) and 2 years for Magister program. If until 2003, scholarship has offered 20 peoples per year, beginning 2004 become 30 peoples per year. In 2004, the number of scholarship acceptances are 222 peoples from 34 GNB countries.

Government of Indonesia darmasiswa Program
Government of Indonesia darmasiswa program is giving Indonesian scholarship to foreign students from friendly countries to study Indonesian/Local language, traditional music art, traditional dance art, handicraft in high education in Indonesia. Indonesian darmasiswa program has offered to foreign student since 1974. Firstly, the countries meant were ASEAN, in 1976 developed, it was offered to countries out of ASEAN. The basic aim Indonesian darmasiswa program is to spread language and culture of Indonesia to friendly countries and it is meant as a mutual activity toward scholarship given by those friendly countries in Indonesia. Besides that, Indonesian darmasiswa program is one cultural diplomatic way. Hence, this program is mission of Government of Indonesian that is. To Ministry of national Education to do coordinatively. Indonesian darmasiswa Program is for non-degree program held for a year. While following the program, the participant is forbidden to work, to do research, and to do political practice. If they do not obey the rules, the participant gets off to their countries.

Schoolarship for Master program
To tighten the relationship and mutual cooperation between friendly countries and Government of Indonesia by offering help in scholarship for master program (strata 2). This program is dedicated to student from friendly countries and non-alignment countries. Schoolrship is given as a continuence of scholarship program that has been done by Indonesian in 1993 and 1994 in the outline of cooperation with Non-alignment countries. Idea of giving scholarship is said in 10th conference between the heads of countries from non-alignment countries that is held on 1-6 September 1992. Government officials from non-alignment countries suggest to President of Republic of Indonesia to be able to give scholarship to non-alignment countries' students.
