USA: Collaborative Training Grants

Collaborative Training Grants (CTG) Program
The Collaborative Training Grants (CTG) program provides grant awards up to $15,000 for the development and implementation of innovative international education training activities and/or products that sensitize U.S. campuses and their respective communities to the needs of students from Arabic-speaking countries. The 2006 CTG proposal deadline is July 14, 2006. Why wait? Apply now!

The program was named the “Collaborative Training Grants Program” because the program and funded projects should represent the collaborative efforts of NAFSA, U.S. institutions of higher learning, and international education-related organizations interested in training international educators, faculty, staff, community members, and volunteers who work with international and/or U.S. study abroad students.

Collaborative Training grants are made available through funding from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State, under the authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961, as amended. For the 2006 CTG competition, the State Department stipulates that grants will fund programs designed to sensitize U.S. campuses and their respective communities to the needs of students from Arabic-speaking countries. Campuses and communities that are better prepared to meet and understand the unique needs of these students will provide a better learning setting which will, in turn, allow the students to achieve a better understanding of the United States and its citizens.

The CTG Program seeks to fund projects that will:

sensitize U.S. campuses and their respective communities to the needs of students from Arabic-speaking countries;
help U.S. institutions of higher education and international education-related non-profit organizations provide training for international educators, faculty, staff, volunteers, and community members who work with international (primarily Arabic-speaking) students;
enable participants to develop and sustain successful international education programs on their campuses/communities; and
involve collaborative efforts among institutions in the same city or state, across states, or among campus offices, organizations, and departments.

Funded projects might include a region-wide workshop that focuses on a specific country, a campus-based seminar to help international educators understand the difficulty of being in a new culture, or the development of a manual to help institutions learn how to identify partners for new exchanges.
